Where to stay - City chic
If like us your idea of a good place to stay includes mixing with the locals, people watching Cafe spots and listening to live music then head to Mahon and Ciutadella. Two old cities whose inner city streets are both heavily influenced by Menorca's invaders! . Ciutadella, the older, has perhaps spain's prettiest square ( Place des Born ) and the architectire of the moors and Rich palaces build with the natural Mares stone. Mahon refelects the british Colonial with it's famous balconies "boinders" and dotted with surprising Art Nouveau facades.
In recent years there has been an explosion of little Boutique and Design hotels. Small , personal and very individual and all right in the heart of each city's charms. Places to stay range from budget to budget busting pamper palaces ( litterally! )

Where to stay - Beach with activities
Two stand out places that scream Menorca, beach and action - Cala Galdana and Cala en Porter. Both are set in impressive bays, both surrounded by beautiful countryside with coastal, valley and countryside walks / cycle ways and offer water sports. Cala Galdana is more developed touristically, but is somewhat remoter. Cala en Porter lies at the heart of things with so much to see and do all within a few miles including the capital Mahon. If you are looking for a bigger , modern resort with more of a more typical holiday buzz check out Cala'n den Bosch with the beautiful old city of Ciutadella a 25 min bus ride away. Plenty of water based activities , boat excursions to virgin beaches

Where NOT to stay
...reading quite a few articles some places get 'heavily romanticised' but we know they are probably not what you could be led to imagine.
Binibequer Vell 'town' (as often misquoted) fisherman's village apartments ( actually a mocked up architects design ) looks beautiful BUT apart from being very cramped have several Bar's and restauramts closeby, suffer loud acoustics, high heels on stone for hours on end etc etc. Visit yes!, stay? perhaps not. Accomodation nearby in Binibeca is a better choice.

Menorca's beach resorts don't have any strips of night clubs. There might be a few late night bars with music acts and a small dance floor. Menorca is no clubbers paradise, but there is still places to chill out at or dance the night away - Live Music Venues

On the coast beyond the odd bar dance area, you really need to visit Ciutadella or Mahon. The only exception being Cala en Porter with Coves Xoroi Disco.How we rate / categorise resorts for couples or groups of friends. The resort might be a 'getaway from the family crowd' place, somewhere with an above average no. of bars or be an ideal base for those looking to mix beach and other activities on Holiday. It is always enjoyable to escape the resort and sample a little bit of cafe bar life, window shopping so easy bus access to Mahon or Ciutadella might be of interest.
